The smartphone is the successor to Redmi 5, which was launched last year in the country. The Chinese smartphone maker seems to be adopting a six month refresh cycle as opposed to annual refresh with its Redmi series.

Since it is a mid-cycle refresh, the Redmi 6 does not seem to be bringing major changes. The smartphone builds on the design language of previous Redmi smartphones but gets dual rear camera setup, which puts it in-line with Redmi S2 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The smartphone also retains the budget pricing, which is the major USP of this model as well. While the Redmi 5 was released in three different storage options, the Redmi 6 has been announced in two storage models.
