The Infinix Hot 7 is the first smartphone from the company to launch in Kenya this year. The phone was officially launched in the country a couple of weeks ago and is available for Ksh 9, through JumiaInfinixmall and most offline shops.

This is the successor to the Hot 6 and 6X from last year and since these phones impressed me so much, I was curious to see what the new one has to offer.

Before we get to the Hot 7, let us first look at the Infinix Hot series. It is not the cheapest line up as that crown is taken by the Infinix Smart which I am not sure if the company is still actively working on.

The Hot series has been around for years and together with the Infinix Note series helped make the brand popular in Kenya. The Infinix Hot series devices have always been available in the Ksh 10, price range and the Hot 7 is not any different.

The back cover is made using plastic that does not feel bad at all. The battery is not removable though. At the back is also where we get the dual camera setup of 13MP and 2MP.

If you have never used a smartphone with a huge display, the size may seem overwhelming in the beginning but you will get used to it very fast.

This met my expectations for a budget tablet, I’m coming from a 3 year old Lenovo Tab 4 8. They brought back the ambient light sensor for auto brightness.

Comes with Android 9. It plays all my games just fine and it plays Netflix and Plex. It also has 32gb internal storage plus micro sd slot which is more than others.

Screen is nice, speakers are also good, gets very loud and have more bass than I thought they would.

Has a headphone jack. Overall this is the budget tablet to get, blows away the Kindle fires because it has Play Store. I just wish they would have put a little faster processor, faster storage, and a little more memory because it is very slow.

I wish there wasn’t such a huge gap.

Hopefully Samsung will take note. Picked up two on the Treasure Truck for our kiddos to replace old 7″ Samsung tablets.

Taking into account the S7’s larger battery, the new device is likely to match this figure at the very least. On the other hand, the Z5 has a suite of excellent battery-saver modes at its disposal.

They have much more granularity than Samsung’s, allowing users to fine-tune their battery consumption to eke out their power for longer if they need to.

The S7 does have more charging options. It retains the S6’s wireless charging, via the Qi and PowerMat standards, as well as its adaptive fast-charging.

The Z5, by contrast, just has fast-charging. Camera quality is one of the major ways smartphone manufacturers attempt to differentiate themselves from the competition.

By and large, Apple is the undisputed leader of the smartphone photography space, but its competitors are quickly catching up.

Compared to Samsung’s next-generation flagship, it should be no surprise that the Xperia Z5 is hardly any competition. There’s still a fair amount we don’t know about the S7, and we can’t run a full comparison until we test it in lab conditions.
